PROVIDENCE HOSPITAL HELEN L. DEROY MEDICAL LIBRARY
Southfield, Michigan
Square Feet: 8,000
This design change was to transform a dark, irregularly
shaped, shelled space in the basement of Providence
Hospital into a highly technical state-of-the-art
medical library. The space presented several challenges
because of its constricted entry, odd shape, and
lack of any natural light. The solution provides
a progression from the hospital corridor through
the narrow entry into a space that opens out, brightens,
and then draws one toward the circulation and reference
desk.
The unique design uses the circulation and reference
desk as the central focal point from which everything
radiates.
