HENRY FORD COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHILD ACTIVITY
CENTER

The problem was to design a campus child activity
center that recognized the family responsibilities
of many day and evening students, while also serving
as a training ground for future teachers and nurses.
The Child Activity Center solution reflects a friendly
image for the children and a safe location somewhat
apart from the other campus buildings.
The development of the “idea” for
the Child Activity Center evolved from the fact
that children grow up in, and are familiar with,
a house and the typical gable roof form. Since
a house has an inherent “homey” feeling,
a house “form” seemed appropriate
for the Child Activity Center.
